Tobacco free duo

Tobacco free duo is the contract method when the students are signing a contract that they will be tobacco free during their entire secondary school period (year 7-9). It all starts with a visit from a special educated dental nurse or dental hygienist in the 6th year of school. The students are then learning more about tobacco combined with different tasks and evaluation exercises. After that, the parents will get information and the students are offered to form a tobacco free duo together with a tobacco free adult. Their partner doesn’t have to be a parent, as long as he or she is tobacco free. There are a lot of parents who is getting challenged by their kids and succeeds to stop using tobacco by our method!

If the child will break the contract, it will be followed up by the school. Different schools have different rules. One example is that the student isn’t allowed to enter any competitions or getting the discount during a whole year. Usually they will be called to their school nurse to talk about their tobacco use. Their partner is also informed.

Tobacco free duo turned 15 years in 2008. It was not only the start for the campaign “Tobaccos children”, but also celebrated with a big concert at Folkets Hus, Umeå. Around 700 members from all the schools in Västerbotten participated and stood up against tobacco and the tobacco industry during that evening. It was a night with lots of joy and god music!
